Jung Woosung, who produced "The Silent Sea"--- "It's harsh to evaluate the success based on the Squid Game."

"As expected, it's hard to produce." 

When actor Woo-sung Jung asked how he felt about being a producer through the Netflix original series "The Silent Sea" through a video interview on the 4th (Korea Standard Time), he replied like this.

The Silent Sea, which depicts the story of elite members who left for a research base abandoned on the moon for a special mission and a future Earth suffering from severe water shortages, remains at the top 10 TV programs around the world on Netflix.

Woo-sung Jung said, "I spent time out of my mind from the day of release to the next day," adding, "When I appeared in the work as an actor, I only had to worry about one purpose of 'how much did I implement the character myself?' (as a producer), I had to watch the response to the overall completeness."

In particular, he expressed his honest thoughts on the current situation in which the criteria for evaluating the success of the work were set for the "Squid Game," saying that he felt a lot of pressure amid global attention to Korean works after the global hit of "Squid Game.

"It's harsh. You have to erase that standard quickly. How many works around the world have created phenomena such as "Squid Game"? If you look at the reference point, I think there will be a situation where you will miss the unique fun or message of the work."

When it comes to the evaluation that likes and dislikes about the 'The Silent Sea' are divided, he said, "I take it calmly and continue to reflect on what I have missed as a producer."

Woo-sung Jung, who became the second producer after the movie Don't Forget Me, said, "I had to release (the work) to the world this time, so I was worried about commerciality," adding, "As a result, I constantly pondered the director's responsibility, intention, and direction of directing."

The cast, including Doona Bae and Gong Yoo, praised "producer Woo-sung Jung" for not only visiting the scene every day but also putting passion into creating a filming environment for actors and staff.

"It was very fun and interesting to watch actors' concerns or characters implemented in the field from a third party's point of view," he said, "Through this work, I have a much greater affection for the job of an actor, and I hope to work with new and precious actors."

In particular, he praised Gong Yoo, who played the leading role, saying, "I was proud just to see him."

When asked if he had any role he wanted as an actor, he said, "I've never thought that way because all the actors worked hard" , "There was talk of a cameo appearance, but I thought my eyes should not be distracted." Instead, I made a timid voice appearance at the end," he said with a smile.

Woo-sung Jung, who has built a career recognized by everyone as an actor, is active in various fields, from production to director. Currently, the movie "Guardian" directed by is about to be released.

When asked if there were any more areas he wanted to challenge, he firmly replied, "No," expressing his ambition.

"I think it's a new challenge to be a person who can stably implement what I'm doing now. Now, it is true that I think of and want to use more works that I want to use the new enlightenment I have gained through The Silent Sea."
