BLACKPINK has been appointed as a public relations ambassador for the 26th U.N. General Assembly on Climate Change (COP26), hosted by the U.K. this year.
According to YG Entertainment, a ceremony was held at the British Embassy in Jung-gu, Seoul on February 25 to appoint a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. General Assembly of the United Nations Climate Change Convention.
BLACKPINK received a handwritten letter from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Prime Minister Johnson, who named each member of BLACKPINK one by one, asked Britain, who chaired the COP26, to join in raising awareness of climate change around the world.
Prime Minister Johnson said BLACKPINK's latest video on climate change has been a tremendous success, adding, "It is very welcome that you have voiced such an important issue at this time."
British Ambassador to Korea Simon Smith also said, "The British Embassy in Korea is very happy to be with BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment ahead of the COP26."
The COP26 will be held in Glasgow in November.
In December last year, BLACKPINK produced and released a video with the British Embassy in Korea to publicize the seriousness of climate change and introduce COP26, drawing attention from the fandom "BLINK."
The video was also introduced at the 2020 Climate Ambition Summit, co-hosted by the United Kingdom, the United Nations and France in the same month.
