Vietnamese-American author Viet Thine Nguyen's feature novel "The Companion," which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2016, will be produced as an American TV drama directed by Chan wook Park.
According to Minumsa on the 8th, writer Nguyen said on his Twitter the previous day that he was happy that director Park, the director of the films "The Handmaiden" and "Old Boy," was decided to direct the drama "The Companion."
According to Nguyen, the two have already met and started interacting in October 2019. Nguyen also said she was inspired by Old Boy when she wrote "The Companion."
The drama will be produced by A24 of the movie "Minari," which delivers a series of recent awards. Nguyen will appear on the A24 podcast with Isaac Jung, director of "Minari," and talk about his anecdotes with Park.
"The Companion" is a work that tells the story of a person who lived as a double spy and settled in the U.S. since Vietnam was communist, and received nine major U.S. literary awards, including the Andrew Carnegie Medal and the Pen Faulkner Award, and was selected as the book of the year by eight major media. In Korea, Minumsa was published in 2018.
